Frequently Asked Questions

Is the conference accessible?

As we realize there are many ways for conferences to be accessible and non-accessible to attendees. Attendees can note any accessibility needs or requests during registration, and we will accommodate all requests as much possible. We urge you to get in touch with us if you have any particular concerns.

Our venue, MaRS, has put together a Guest Accessibility Package that has more detailed information about their venue including safety and security procedures, an accessible washroom directory, and amenities that may not be accessible. Tech Forum and ebookcraft main day events (March 19 and 20) take place mostly in the lower concourse with some streams on the ground floor, and ebookcraft workshops (March 18) all take place on the ground floor. Our after-party venue, Watson’s, is also a ground-floor accessible building with a ground-floor washroom.

You can read BookNet Canada’s Accessibility Policy here.

Lending a hand

With a diverse array of attendees and speakers at the conference — ebookcraft in particular — opportunities will arise to lend a hand to someone with visual impairments. Please feel free to offer assistance if it looks like it would be welcome. Checking in at break times to see if a service dog needs to go out, or if someone needs a washroom or coffee, would be great. Also, checking in at lunch to see if someone needs a plate of food loaded up is helpful. Remember: Never pet any service animals and don’t share any meat with the dogs, no matter what their eyes tell you!

What’s the event hashtag?

For Tech Forum: #TechForum / For ebookcraft (workshops & main day): #ebookcraft

Can I see the videos or slides from previous events?

Yes! We have links to materials from past events here: Tech Forum, ebookcraft

Will there be free wireless at the venue?

Yes! Login details will be printed on your badge.

Will there be coffee or food?

Yes, breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as coffee and snacks throughout the day. Dietary restrictions can be noted during registration and special meals will be available for those individuals. All meat served is halal.

Will there be a coat check?

There will be a formal, staffed coat check at Tech Forum (in the hallway outside the Auditorium). At ebookcraft, there will be large coat closets available in all event rooms. So don’t worry, you can stash your bulky winter coat!

Are there opportunities for sponsorship or media partnerships?

Yes! Visit the Contact page to get in touch.

Is there an after-party?

Yes! In fact, there are two.

The ebookcraft After-Party & Pub Quiz, presented by Scenarex, will be on Tuesday, March 19 at Watson’s (388 Richmond St. W.). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the pub quiz will start at 7 p.m. Join us for light refreshments, nerdy trivia, and even nerdier prizes while you unwind with your fellow attendees and speakers.

At Tech Forum on March 20, there will be a reception in the concourse after the last session of the day with drinks and light refreshments.

Is there a student discount on tickets?

Unfortunately, we’re not able to provide a student discount. However, it’s worth checking with your school’s administration to see if they have a professional development budget that could sponsor students. We have tips for that.

Are there any professional development subsidies that cover part of attendance costs?

Not at this time. We will update this page if any become available. But we do have tips for getting your boss on board.

Is there a special hotel rate?

Yes! The Chelsea Hotel in downtown Toronto (33 Gerrard St. W.) is offering discounted rates for conference attendees: $139 plus tax for single & double occupancy only; $169 for triple; $199 for quad. Rooms include complimentary wired internet, as well as special parking rates for overnight guests only.
